CC- Week 11 Hagia Sophia Gingerbread House Project

Today, we are attempting to make a gingerbread house out of the Hagia Sophia from the Byzantine Empire.

We are using graham crackers (for the walls), and fondant for the domes.
icing:  powdered sugar and water- very thick so it will dry quickly.

This took us 2 hours to complete, once we started with the crackers and icing.
We already had the 11x17 mat boards with the template drawn on them, ready to go.

Hagia Sophia Gingerbread House- Byzantine Empire
This one was mine.

Here are some pictures I found on the internet for inspiration:

Template I made that uses graham crackers:
Print at 100%.
Then press it down onto your cardboard with a pen (to have a tracing of image.)
Trace with marker on cardboard.

100 Scriptures from the Book of Mormon

    • "...It is desirable that our children should learn to memorize important passages;
      such that will leave a
strong impression upon their lives; scriptural passages that they
      will use as their guiding star;
scriptural passages that will help to form convictions in
their minds of right and wrong; scriptural passages
that will bring conviction to their
      hearts."

Elder Joseph M. Tanner, April 1901 General Conference

"I have a vision of thousands of missionaries going into the mission field with hundreds
      of passages memorized
from the Book of Mormon so that they might feed the needs of a
      spiritually famished world."

President Ezra Taft Benson, October 1988 General Conference

      Our Favorite Chapters:

The thought occurred to me:  If we listen to our favorite stories at night before bed,
pretty soon, we'll have them memorized just because we've listened to them so often!

      1.   3 Nephi 11             Jesus Comes to the Americas

      2.  3 Nephi 17             Jesus and Angels Bless the Children

      3.  Alma 43                 Chief Captain Moroni and Zarahemna

      4.  Alma 32                 Faith like a Seed

      5.  Alma 17–19           Ammon Teaches King Lamoni

      6.  Ether 1–3              The Jaredites and the Boats

      7.  Mosiah 22             Lamanite Guards Made Drunk

      8.  Mosiah 18             Waters of Mormon

      9.  Mosiah 12 & 17    Abinadi's Story

      10.  2 Nephi 31–32    Nephi tells about Christ's Baptism

      11.  1 Nephi 17–18     Nephi Builds a Ship

      12.  1 Nephi 4             Nephi and Laban

Moroni

Ether 12:6

And now, I, Moroni, would speak somewhat concerning these things; I would show unto the world that faith is things which are hoped for and not seen; wherefore, dispute not because ye see not, for ye receive no witness until after the trial of your faith.

Ether 12:27

And if men come unto me I will show unto them their weakness. I give unto men weakness that they may be humble; and my grace is sufficient for all men that humble themselves before me; for if they humble themselves before me, and have faith in me, then will I make weak things become strong unto them.

    HOPE Co-Op 2012-13 Weekly Updates

    Please follow the Syllabus.
This is just for any additional comments.
    Will be updated as needed.

    10/23/2012

    Hi IEW Class,

Somehow we got a little ahead.
We did lesson 6A Yesterday.  (Damocles and the King, Sec 1 RD)

We will be back on track for the 11/5 lesson, as it was going to cover 2 weeks.  Now it will just be lesson 6B instead of both.

    Schedule:
    10/22  Lesson 6A
10/29  No class.  Work on vocabulary cards at home.
    11/5    Lesson 6B
11/12  Lesson 6C  (Back on Schedule)

Reminder- there is no class next week on 10/29.
Make this the day to put together your vocabulary cards.
Find the vocabulary list in the Teacher Book for All Things Fun and Fanciful.
    Get a pack of Notecards.
Photo copy the vocab word and definition, and glue the word on one side, and the definition on the other.  (or have them write it down.)
In one hour, you should be able to get the entire year vocab words done... ready to study.

Also, everyone is doing great on their papers.
I tried to hand back everyone's papers so they could see how they were doing.
Please make your best effort to mark your own papers... (underline the dressups, and label in the right margin.)  Mark your sentence starters in the left margin.  I have a sample of how to do this on my blog.

Thanks for all your great effort!

    Ms. Candi

    Week 9/10/2012

    Hi IEW Elementary Class!

So, our first class went great!
We have a homework assignment due on Monday.  Don't worry.  It's not terrible.
They need to complete the Key Word Outline for "Life Preservers", and turn it in.  If you and your child are familiar with IEW, you can also write this paragraph out to turn in.  If this is your first experience, just complete the Key Word Outline.  See the teachers manual attached below.

I've put together dates for each lesson.  Please visit my blog for more helpful links for this class.  This is where I will be posting any updates for the class, etc. during the school year.
